Neuromuscular Re-education at Madison Physical Therapy
When you sustain an injury, other neighboring areas of your body may over compensate and pick up the slack. For example, if you break your arm, you may start over using muscles in your neck or upper back to complete activities you now struggle with. This can easily happen with a task as basic as reaching overhead to wash your hair or getting dressed. The result is an overall imbalance which can cause chronic pain or injury to neighboring joints. At Madison Physical Therapy, we will closely assess your movement patterns to ensure you are functioning in the most efficient way possible.
Neuromuscular re-education may consist of strengthening, coordination, posture, balance, or kinesthetic exercises. Various taping techniques can also be used for addressing postural weaknesses or imbalances to facility or inhibit specific muscles. Kinesthetic exercises help to bring awareness to injured muscles and joints retraining them as to where they are in space.
